Law 6963 of August 6, 2003 amends the Quarantine Act. Aims to properly cope with state emergencies as in the case of outbreak of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) by reclassifying new epidemic syndromes, bioterrorism-caused epidemics, epidemics rampant overseas whose cause is unidentifiable, etc., out of Category 4 communicable diseases, to the list of epidemics subject to quarantine which comprise cholera, pestilence and yellow fever currently, and aims to enhance the effectiveness of policy execution by resetting the isolation and monitoring period during a latent period in line with expansion of diseases subject to quarantine and inserting a new provision that the state shall bear the costs incurred for isolation or monitoring at facilities other than quarantine stations in the quarantine process.
