Summary (English)	An Act to provide for an integrated system of land and water management in the Mackenzie Valley, to establish certain boards for that purpose and to make consequential amendments to other Acts, S.C. 1998, c. 25, received Royal Assent on 18 June 1998, and implements provisions resulting from the signature of the Gwich’in Land Claim Agreement signed on 22 April 1992 and of the Sahtu Dene and Metis Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement signed on 6 September 1993 which objectives are to co-manage land and waters of the Mackenzie Valley, and to enable residents of the Mackenzie Valley to participate in the management of their resources and to protect the environment. The Act established Land Use Planning Boards for both the Gwich’in and the Sahtu communities to determine the use of lands, the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board to regulate land and water use, and the Environmental Impact Review Board for the entire Mackenzie Valley to provide for the examination of the environmental impact of various development plans. The Act, other than Part 4 and subsections 160(2), 165(2) and 167 (2), came into force on 22 December 1998. Part 4 of the Act, sections 160(2), 165(2) and 167(2) came into force on 31 March 2000. (French)	La Loi constituant certains offices en vue de la mise en place d'un système unifié de gestion des terres et des eaux de la vallée du Mackenzie et modifiant certaines lois en conséquence, L.C. 1998, ch. 25 a reçu la sanction royale le 18 juin 1998, et elle met en œuvre des dispositions découlant de l'Entente sur la revendication territoriale globale des Gwich'in, signée le 22 avril 1992, puis de l'Entente sur la revendication territoriale globale des Dénés et des Métis du Sahtu, signée le 6 septembre 1993, dont les objectifs sont de gérer de manière coordonnée les terres et les eaux de la vallée du Mackenzie, et de permettre aux habitants de la vallée du Mackenzie de participer à la gestion des ressources de cette région et à la protection de l'environnement. La Loi constitue des offices d'aménagement territorial à la fois pour les Gwich'in et les communautés du Sahtu afin de déterminer l'utilisation des terres, l'Office des terres et des eaux de la vallée du Mackenzie, qui réglementera l'utilisation des terres et des eaux, et l'Office d'examen des répercussions environnementales de la vallée du Mackenzie, qui se chargera d'évaluer les conséquences environnementales de différents projets de développement. La Loi, sauf la partie 4 et les paragraphes 160(2), 165(2) et 167(2), est entrée en vigueur le 22 décembre 1998. La partie 4 de la Loi et les paragraphes 160(2), 165(2) et 167(2) sont entrés en vigueur le 31 mars 2000 (projet de loi C 6, 168 articles, p. 995 à 1072).
